Here is some information about the different kinds of
Huskies there are out there . Huskies have been bred for
years for MANY different reasons and purposes. Because of
the vast ways huskies were used throughout history, they
sometimes look very different from each other. What we
do is we have a combination of all the different types of
huskies, and we mix and match. We will breed a show
male to a working female, that way the puppies will have
the stunning look of a show husky, with the wonderful
health and intelligence of a working husky. Sometimes we
breed show husky to show husky, and sometimes working
to working, but we like to have a nice verity for people to
This will help explain! Please note some of these huskies
in these pictures are ours, but most are not, they are just
pictures of examples of the different types of huskies .
The first Husky type we will talk about if your most
common and famous "Show" Husky. These huskies are bred
to fit the breed standard as laid out by a Kennel Club.
Show huskies are bred most for there beautiful color,
shape, perfect color pattern, and overall stunning and
exotic appearance. The "Show" Husky is a wonderful type
of husky, though they sometimes supper from a few
health problems, and are not as efficient in the working
field as the working husky, which we will talk about
next. They are generally shorter, smaller, and weigh less
then the other husky types.

Next, we can talk about The "Working Husky" or
"Seppala Husky" , These are huskies that are bred for
Intelligence, ability, and health. These are dogs were NOT
bred for appearance, so even though they are pure bred
huskies, they do not have the classic markings . A huge
positive point of a working husky is the Intelligence and
health, they are usually much smarter and healthier and
have way fewer health problems then the show huskies.
Working Huskies are still used all over the world for
sledding and working. Here are some examples of Working
Our next type of huskies are racing huskies or "Alaskan
Huskies" . There are shorter coated long legged thinner
huskies used for racing. They are a form of working
husky, specifically for racing. Here are some examples of
Our next category is my favorite, the "Woolly Husky".
There name sums it up, They were bred for there
beautiful heavy coat. And actually, contrary to popular
belief, they actually do just fine in Florida. As long as they
have plenty of shade and water, and a nice cool
environment they are fantastic.
Here are some pictures of the beautiful fluffy huskies!!
Next is the "Mini Husky". These are relatively new on the " Market". They are between 25 - 40 lbs full grown, and are pure Bred Siberian Huskies, just bred down to be a little bit smaller. They are often confused with the Alaskan Klee Kais, but they are not the same thing. There are many arguments about mini Huskies, it is true they are fairly new, but they are in fact a real breed, even though they are not recognized by AKC yet. Most "Mini" dog breed out there were bred down the same way the mini Huskies are. Mini poodles, Mini Schnauzers, Mini Dachshunds, all of them started with the base standard sized, and through CAREFUL selective breeding, they got minis.
Last but not least, The Alaskan Klee Kai!!! These are the smallest of the Huskies, they are from 6 - 25 lbs full grown, the smaller, the more prized. The Klees are comprised of Husky dogs, with just a little schipperke and American Eskimo, though some are also now being mixed with Pomeranian. I have a few friends with Klees, and several of them have sent in DNA analysis, and Pomeranian has come up in the results several times. They are wonderful little guys, and make a great solution for someone wanting a Husky without the large size . It is good to remember that these guys are a completely different dog breed, and are not considered an actual Husky.
